Lincoln’s Finest Barbers.

We recently spoke with Tom, the proprietor of Lincoln’s fully qualified educational barbering team.

Located on the Hartsholme Estate,

they offer free parking and family-friendly services that guarantee customers will look and feel better after each visit.

 

Their approach to barbering is unique - they start every appointment with a consultation to examine face shapes, hair types and lifestyles to deliver the best cut.

 

Firstly, we asked Tom; what inspired you to start your business?

His response:

“One of my fondest memories of my father was our monthly trip to the barbershop. The day would be full of excitement about what was to come.

The Barber greeted us with a cheeky bit of banter, saying the football team he supported was rubbish! I'm then sitting in the chair, choosing my haircut, praying the Barber would put the expensive gel in my hair.

After my fresh new trim that I couldn't wait to show off to my mates, it was time for my dad to have his haircut. I would typically sit on one of the chairs, reading the paper like a grown-up. I would get my lollipop when we finished, and Dad would pay.”

 

Next, we wanted to know his plans for the next 12 months:

“We're thrilled to announce our newest incentives, which will give customers more booking flexibility and reduce the number of "no-shows."

Starting in April, we'll launch a corporate membership that provides companies with one trim a month for each staff member depending on their number of employees. Even better, these trims can come with complimentary beard trims or time in our private sun-bed room!

We are also the first salon in Lincolnshire to offer Barber Coaching services to fellow businesses and salon owners. With costs rising astronomically, this course helps small business owners learn alongside our team – all of whom are American Crew ACER 2 qualified. Clients can be assured they'll get experienced, officially trained professionals with all the necessary insurance.

We're also looking to diversify our team by taking on an apprentice for barbering. This will allow a young individual to gain employment and learn from our fully qualified professionals while studying at college.

Finally, in April, we'll introduce the online booking system that allows clients complete flexibility, no waiting around, and detailed records of productivity for us – as well as extensive marketing channels to make the most of our customer base!”

 

Next up, I asked about 2022 and what challenges he and his company faced:

“2022 was a challenging year for small businesses, with rising costs and the residual impact of Covid-19. However, at Tom's of Lincoln, we launched our Lads and Dads membership to bring parents and children together at a time that works for them. We also added an unlimited membership option for our regulars so they could stay on top of all the barber-related costs without worrying about bookings.

Luke Lewis achieved his Level 2 Barbering qualification with Distinction. On top of that, I completed my fourth year as a member of the NHBF & Barbers Council National Board. We reintroduced the sun-bed to promote wellness within men, while encouraging mums and women to visit us too.

To develop ourselves further, Luke and I completed our American Crew 2 Acer Course – an impressive feat! As part of our commitment to the local community, we’re proud sponsors of Lincoln Unites Men’s 1st Team - Man of the Match Sponsor and Ladies’ 1st Team Away Kit Sponsor.”
