Business Spotlight - The Creative Pear

The Business Imp recently had a chat with Stu Davis and Kate Gray, the two creative halves of Lincoln-based freelance copywriting business, The Creative Pear, to find out more about them.

How would describe The Creative Pear?

If you’ve joined us at any Lincolnshire networking events then you’ll know that we support the growth of our client’s businesses through the power of the written word. With more than a decade of combined experience, we can make the difference in the writing of blogs, web pages, and much else besides.

Teaming up as a couple of Lincoln-based freelance writers, we research and create the kinds of words that connect and convince. While our own marketing draws on the inspiration of wordplay, we have a track record of writing on-brand content for our clients.

What inspired you to start The Creative Pear?

Looking to make the most out of a bad situation, we ‘peared-up’ in the peak of covid. Stu had already been working as a freelance copywriter for a couple of years, having finished his M.A in professional writing back in 2009. And Kate was looking for ways of using her creative talents having finished a B.A in Art History and worked in administration.

What makes you different from others in your field?

It’s pretty unusual to find creatives who’ve teamed up and gone down the freelance path together. But it’s a choice that’s really worked for us, as a couple with a shared love of content. It also makes sense for our clients, being able to call on our collective skills, knowledge, and copywriting craft.

Do you have particular favourite areas to work on?

With experience of supporting diverse range of businesses, we’ve covered an impressive list of topics.

Having said that, Kate’s passions include:

  • Travel

  • Sustainability

  • Arts & heritage

And Stu loves writing about:

  • Technology

  • Marketing

  • Sports

Is there a particular piece of work that you are especially proud of?

Stu counts one of his career highlights as the series of articles and case studies that he produced for the international computing, brand Acer. He really enjoys the variety of freelance life, with new and interesting projects to work on each week.

Kate has revelled in the writing of more than 40 blogs promoting a range of sustainable products and sharing the campaigns launched by an eco-conscious beauty brand. She’d love to expand her experience working with heritage and visitor attractions, given her BA Hons Undergraduate Degree in Humanities and Art History.

Although working for clients based as far away as Berlin, we’re always happy to support in the promotion of local brands and businesses. Hopefully, we’ll have more of these local opportunities in time.
