Having my first child has changed EVERYTHING.
I was once a career driven, fiercly focused and a no small talk kind of woman; constantly feeling like there wasn’t enough hours in the day. Previously working in managing factory orders and then to go on to juggling shipping logistics during the dreaded Covid days and then implementing a complex warehouse system, I thrived under extreme pressure.
Maternity leave with my first born child has taught me so many things, to slow down, engage and be in the moment. I’ve had to reteach myself on how to hold eye contact and I’m learning more about those I love. It’s a completely different world and it’s one that I have welcomed with open arms. I have in fact stepped off that high speed treadmill and am now going through life at a much more leisurely pace - taking it ALL in.
Don’t get me wrong, in order to move through life at this slower pace, I have had to make a lot of cut backs and compromises to value family time over money. But it’s been so worth it.
My desire to succeed did not dissipate throughout maternity leave and although mothering my daughter has been one of the biggest challenges in my career to date, I knew that I needed to build a career that would support the flexibility needed with a child.
I purchased my very first camera a few months into maternity leave so that I could take some pictures of my little girl and take time to learn about photography, settings and lighting during her naps. This quickly led to taking photos of friends and family before I took the plunge to launch my photography business back in summer 2022.
Starting my new photography business has helped fulfil my desire to succeed while still having the time to spend with my little girl and husband. Both of which is something that I am fiercely passionate about.
Becoming a mother and working with children has brought out this playful, joyful side of me that I had forgotten I had and it is so refreshing to have found it again.
