Why SEO is paramount to achieving long-term online success!

My website isn’t generating much business for me!

This is something we hear from people quite often. Often businesses naively think that having a fancy and professional website is enough to get those all-important leads flowing in.

The truth is simply having a website presence, no matter how good the design, is only the start of the journey to online success. The reality is that getting your website seen by potential customers means ranking highly on Google and other search engines for those looking for your services.

This process is called search engine optimisation, and it is paramount in attracting a steady flow of high-quality traffic to your website organically. Think of your website like a shop window, you can dress your window with fancy merchandise and signage to pure people in, and whilst it’s true you might get some passing trade, it’s unlikely that your shop will flourish unless the right people know about it.

Search engine optimisation or SEO for short may sound a little daunting but in simple terms it’s just about helping search engines understand your content and establishing trust and authority in search engines.

There are many processes and techniques that are count towards good SEO but what’s most important is the quality of your website content and how well your website performs. A fast loading, engaging website, with unique, well-written and highly relevant content will often be seen as favourable by search engines.

But the process doesn’t stop there. To get the very best results from SEO there are several off-site processes that should also be completed. Domain authority has a considerable influence in determining how well a site is ranked. It is scored from 0 to 100, with 0 indicating a very poor domain authority and 100 being a fantastic domain authority.

The score is determined by your website backlinks, including the quantity of backlinks, their quality, and the number of unique referring domains. Backlinks can be obtained from several sources but what’s important is the quality of these backlinks. Backlinks from highly relevant and high-ranking resources are the holy grail. It’s also important to ensure any backlinks are dofollow as the alternative nofollow links are often ignored by search engines and so will do little to boost the domain authority (although may still generate traffic through referrals).

Many online business directories will offer nofollow links so it’s important to look to look at alternative ways of obtaining backlinks, such as article directories and blogging.

It's also important to see SEO as a long-term strategy. It is not a one-time thing and can take months or even years to see significant results. Good SEO involves constantly reviewing and updating content, reviewing backlinks, and keeping up to date with Google’s ever-changing algorithms. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, however, SEO can be a very rewarding investment.
